The ego has a strong dislike for the present moment, simply because it does not have a past or future to fuel off. It thrives off these two timelines - without them, it ceases to exist without direction. It creates fear to hold on to control and power. If you allow it, it will control what you do and will stop you from reaching new heights in your life.
An example of living in the present moment is doing something new and not knowing what the outcome may be. Just being in the present moment unknowing of the past and future. The egoic mind will attempt to look for reassurance of an outcome due to fear of the unknown. It may compare a future outcome using a past experience, or it may compare a similar experience that somebody else experienced, to predict an outcome for you.
Without the fuel, the ego has no choice but to evaporate in the present moment as it cannot survive simply just being. Once it starts being observed and questioned, it can no longer be unconscious. You start to become conscious.
When you start to awaken, you usually become conscious of how much your ego has been ruling your life. Especially in terms of fear,
codependency and people pleasing. Where did they stem from? Childhood? Being bullied? Needing to fit in with a certain crowd? Competing with siblings for the most attention? The questions are
endless - good bye black and white thinking.
At first we try to avoid this ego death, as the ego hates losing it's identity. It's at this point, you may try to run away You may get scared you are going to lose yourself. This is part of the process and following through can result in a happier, much better, overall wellbeing.
An awakening usually results in poor mental health as you start to question your current life and the self image you identify with (normally through conditioning), this can be known as the dark knight of the soul or ego death. When you come out of this dark night, you become the person you want to be, the consciousness or soul, not what society or the people from the past have told you to be.
I also help people through a spiritual awakening, which is shut down by the paradigms and ideologies today. This is because it cannot be measured in a way that makes sense at the moment. But it is worth noticing that science has not discovered the truth. They are making a mess trying to discover the truth (all over the place) - making our anxiety higher than ever. Authorities choose a 'truth' depending on the agenda they want to push and choose this theory as a backdrop.
But a well evidenced theory can be debunked at any time as a theory is not a certain fact. There is also a not one size fits all when it comes to our bodies. For example, veganism works for one but not another and people who have allergies and so on.
I myself have been through a spiritual awakening, my dark night of the soul lasted around 2 years. Before this, I kept suppressing it with substances due to fear of isolation, psychiatric constraints and a system that totally bypasses this experience.
In the early 1900's science moved from the subconscious mind and towards cognition's that could be measured. The mind and body became two separate components in science research. Therefore, they moved to measuring behaviours only and how cognition impacts, influences or contributes towards our behaviours or symptoms we have.
Energy, the subconscious and consciousness were heavily neglected and power, medicine and success was instead formed from what could be measured. Such as tight models in therapy (which have been extracted from ancient religions). There are models and frameworks for everything today and it can all become overwhelming. The paradigms (systems) are formed around this to make decisions.
